Last April (2012), I wrote of my excitement for the follow-up to Israeli director, Eytan Fox’s 2002 feature Yossi and Jagger the first film of his to be released in the states. I’ve been a huge fan of Fox for the past 10 years. Tribeca Film Festival premiered Yossi and I’ve been waiting since then for it to come out on DVD. It did not play at QFest in Philly last summer. It’s now screening in NYC (although I can’t figure out where… Fandango doesn’t list it, and it’s not on the Quad’s Coming Soon page) and the NY Times has a great article on Fox and the progression of gay rights in Israel over his lifetime. I own everything I can by Fox (Yossi & Jagger, Walk on Water, The Bubble). I saw Mary Lou, his fantastic Glee-esque television mini-series in 2011 at the CT Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Unfortunately Mary Lou’s not been released on Region 1 DVD. If you are new to Fox’s work, I’d suggest starting with Walk on Water.
Update: Strand Releasing picked up the distribution rights for Yossi. They have it listed as Coming Soon on their website as of today, 20 January 2013.
